I had never lived Gaeta before, it was in my mind for historical/culinary references – 200gr of Virgil, a touch of Dante, a famous prison and pink olives – then one afternoon I drove down to the Pontina street to escape from Rome and, arrived in a small medieval paradise of fischermen, I accepted with sublime disorientation the walls realized by the invited artist of Memorie Urbane.

Recent memories, newly recorded for those who, from May 13th til June 15th, has had the opportunity to admire the work done by four Italian artists Agostino Iacurci, Teresa Orazio, Sten & Lex and a Spanish one, Escif in the most recent part of the city between Corso Italia and the waterfront plus few previews inside the medieval city curated by the Roman group Sbagliato.

Street art as a catalyst has an added value when it focuses on a reality with its own millenary history and at the same time, Gaeta has offered an incredibly natural habitat to the fugitive new proposal which exploited the common billboards for non-profit purposes. Other thing is to offer illustrated walls to the city and see how the urban dimension fail to assimilate and preserving them. Another one is have opened to the public an exhibition at the Memorie Con.Temporary gallery that throughout the period of the festival brought from Rome the set up of Vandalism with works by Obey, Banksy, Slinkachu, Space Invader, etc.

The wills of Davide Rossillo (promoter), Salvatore Solko (curator) and Simone Pallotta (supervisor) seem to be fully satisfied, the astonishment of the citizens gave its symptoms (parents of children out of school have confused Sbagliato’s windows with real windows) and the link between the city and the artists was born and grew so fast that there are rumors about some of them who didn’t want to leave and were painting very, very, very slowly.

My eyes of curious visitor and guest see Gaeta in their future, so if I were you I would close them only after having a look to the photo-reportage and I would open them again in time to get in the car to leave for the land of the Aeneid.
